Towels 101, an educational short story

Towels come in many shapes, sizes, colors, and fabrics. They are made from absorbent material, typically cotton, and used to dry off the body, hands, and face, as well as for wiping off objects. The right selection can make a hotel room or home more inviting or be a great bathroom accent.

Bath Towels

Bath towels are a necessity for any bathroom. They are the first thing you reach for when getting out of the shower unless you are using a robe my of cotton. They are typically rectangular in shape, and having ones that are large enough to cover the body can make the après shower experience all the more enjoyable. Bath towels are available in different fabrics and fabric blends. 100 percent cotton towels are the most popular and most absorbent. Ones with a blend of cotton and polyester tend to last longer. If the intended use is for a hotel room, it can make sense to go with a more durable material blend.

Hand Towels

Hand towels are much smaller than bath towels. Their primary purpose is to absorb water, and they are commonly used to dry hands after washing. Frequently, they are purchased in the same color as a room’s bath towels. Hand towels are typically placed or hung right next to a bathroom sink so they are within easy reach when needed.

Bath Mats

Bath mats absorb excess water when someone leaves the bath or shower. They are thicker than regular bath towels, and they offer improved traction so you don’t slip on a wet floor. They can be purchased to match the other towels in the room, or they can be color coordinated with a shower curtain.

Beach Towels

Beach towels are usually of the biggest of towels. They are durable and ideal for lying on sand or around the pool.
